Cheese-tastic Food photography from London

Having already shot with British mega cheese brand cathedral city this second shoot was even bigger and better than before. With a different brief, style, backgrounds and props, but the same amazing team we produced some great food photography that was to be used for various marketing campaigns. The shoot plan was to showcase a variety of different meals and dishes that all have cheese as the main or secondary element, highlighting the versatility of one of Britain’s favourite ingredients!  

The recipes for the shoot took some planning. The art direction requested strong directional lighting teamed with suitable props to give a few different styles ‘through the day’.  So to start with, we went for morning brunch style - photographing sandwiches and other lunch items on a kitchen table. These worked perfectly for the ready sliced cheese product which only features in the corner of the frame. Sometimes it’s important to just show a suggestion of the product rather than the product being always centre stage.  This produces a lifestyle feel to the photography which was the general aim for this shoot. The next set of images features a warmer colour palette and also a few window cuts which give the feeling of a autumnal afternoon light pouring through a window.  These were used for the grated cheese recipes - and like the recipes themselves, portrays the warmth you feel when having your favourite comfort food.

The final consideration was the crop and final output, most of the shots were designed for a square or 4x5 crop format so everything was shot in portrait orientation and then cropped afterwards. The final shots below have an outside feel with the Burger shots and the picnic vibe going on, still shot in a studio but just to look like an outside setting.

A fantastic and fun shoot - no doubt this was down to having an amazing team, backed by great planning and fantastic art direction.
