Product & Packshot Photography

Social media, Ecommerce & Advertising Product Photography

Howlett photography produces premium first rate packshot photography used in various marketing media including printed magazines and billboards to catalogs and e-commerce platforms. We understand how different products react with different lighting and tailor our style to suit the product. Over the years, we've captured hundreds, if not thousands, of packshots, leveraging our extensive experience and expertise, we ensure that your product appears at its most appealing.

Packshot photography encompasses both static and dynamic images of a product, with the primary objective of providing a faithful depiction, often including its packaging and labelling. Packshots are descriptive, consistent and not only mirrors how products appear in a retail setting but also aligns with the product's brand identity and reputation.

The Importance Of Packshot Photography

A packshot serves various purposes, ranging from simple and practical to intricate and even evocative. It can begin with the straightforward task of assuring customers that they are selecting the correct item, such as distinguishing between a green and a blue leather handbag. On the other end of the spectrum, it can involve elaborate lighting, extremely high resolution capture and advanced composite techniques. These images are meticulously crafted to  influence customers to choose your product or engage with your service.

Product packshot photography on a white background is a regular request, often employed in e-commerce shopping carts and online stores where multiple options are presented. These images, known as cutouts, silhouettes, or packshots, place the primary focus on the product itself, isolating it from the background. They may include a shadow or reflection to enhance the visual appeal. Cutout images are typically set against a white or neutral background, although they can be customised to match the colour scheme of your design. If needed, they can even be provided with a transparent background.

Cutout (With No Background)

The simplest silhouette is one where the background is completely removed from the image. The product appears to be floating on the page and has nothing to anchor it to the design. Either pure white background or if saved as a PNG file with a transparent background. Can be useful for designers as cutout and can easily be placed onto any background.

Drop Shadow

Drop shadows are the tried and true way of placing your product on your page. Your product appears to be resting on the webpage and has a grounded placement. Shadows provided always look natural and can vary on the type of product. We always use a natural shadow and not photoshopped in order to provide a natural look.

With Reflection

Reflections make your products look like they are photographed on a pristine surface. They look modern, clean and sleek. This is the most modern looking way to anchor a product and typically used to create a luxury opulent feel.
