London Food Photography

Food photography usually requires a broader range of collaboration compared to some other still life disciplines. In most cases the food needs to be cooked or aesthetically arranged in addition to the sets being dressed and styled - all of which requires planning and preparation in different areas of expertise. This is when a food stylist, and in a lot of cases, a home economist becomes essential. Art directors can provide ideas and an overall vision which is a great place for a photographer to start when interpreting and realising a comprehensive brief.
Due to covid, and in line with government guidelines back in December, the team on this shoot was kept quite modest: client, art director stylist and stylist assistant. After streamlining the brief laid out by the art director, backgrounds and props were sourced, and dishes prepped, ready for the shoot.
The client, Cathedral City, the well-known cheese brand, required a variety of shots with diverse backgrounds and carefully considered composition. Most were styled with a view to crop into a square or portrait format. But some were cropped with copy in mind - like the sandwich shot below - where plenty of negative space is left at the top and bottom so as to accommodate any text once published.
A successful shoot with lots of assets and a very happy client. The success was down to good planning and great work from my team so a massive thanks to everyone involved.
